about

Edinburgh Elopement and Intimate Wedding Photographer

Welcome

There’s something incredibly special about eloping in Edinburgh.

Maybe it’s the winding cobbled streets, the dramatic skyline, the historic architecture or the way the city somehow feels both grand and intimate all at once. Whether you’re planning a quiet ceremony at the City Chambers, exchanging vows on Arthur’s Seat at sunrise or escaping to the Scottish Highlands after saying “I do”, Edinburgh is one of the most romantic places in the world to get married.

I’m Claire, an Edinburgh elopement photographer capturing relaxed, natural and heartfelt wedding photography for couples who want a day that feels authentic, meaningful and completely their own.

Rather than spending hours posing for photographs, my approach is all about documenting the real moments as they unfold — the excitement before your ceremony, the laughter, the emotion, the windswept hair, the quiet moments together and everything in between.

Natural & Relaxed Elopement Photography in Edinburgh

Elopements are beautifully personal.

No strict timelines.
No pressure.
No expectations.
Just the two of you (or a handful of your favourite people) celebrating your relationship in a way that feels right.

Whether you’re travelling from overseas or planning a local Scottish elopement, I’ll help create a relaxed experience from start to finish. Most couples tell me they’re nervous about being photographed, but honestly, you don’t need to worry. My style is unobtrusive, easy-going and focused on genuine connection rather than stiff posing.

The result? Beautiful, emotional images that feel natural and timeless years later.

Edinburgh Elopement Locations I Love

Edinburgh offers so many incredible locations for intimate weddings and elopements, including:

  • Edinburgh City Chambers
  • Calton Hill
  • Arthur’s Seat
  • Dean Village
  • The Royal Mile
  • Princes Street Gardens
  • Holyrood Park
  • Victoria Street
  • The Pentland Hills

And if you’re dreaming of something even more adventurous, we can head further into the Highlands, Glencoe or Loch Lomond for breathtaking Scottish scenery.

For Couples Who Want Real Moments

My photography style blends documentary storytelling with relaxed portraits and creative natural light photography.

That means:

  • less awkward posing
  • less time away from your day
  • more genuine moments
  • more natural emotion
  • more photographs that actually feel like you

I’ll gently guide you when needed, but mostly I want you to enjoy your elopement while I quietly capture it all unfolding naturally.

Planning Your Edinburgh Elopement

Planning an elopement from abroad or outside Scotland can feel overwhelming, but it really doesn’t have to be.

Over the years I’ve photographed weddings and elopements across Edinburgh and Scotland, and I’m always happy to help with:

  • location ideas
  • ceremony timing
  • local supplier recommendations
  • best photo spots
  • weather advice
  • relaxed timelines for your day

Whether your elopement is just the two of you or a small gathering with family and friends, I’d love to help tell your story in a way that feels honest, relaxed and completely personal.

FAQ

Best time of day for elopement photos?

As with all types of outdoor photography the ultimate time for the best light is first thing in the morning or just before sunset. Not only is the light more beautiful but it’s usually quieter too! Of course planning an elopement at these times doesn’t always fit in with plans. I can shoot at any time of day and you still get beautiful photos!

What are the best locations for an elopement?

I shoot a LOT of weddings at Edinburgh City Chambers. It’s beautiful there and there are lots of iconic locations nearby. You could have photos taken at Calton Hill, The Vennel, Princes Street Gardens, Dean Village, Circus Lane… If you want an outdoor ceremony then St Anthony’s Chapel on Arthur’s Seat is a beautiful location.

How much photography coverage do I need an elopement?

Coverage is usually a minimum of 2 hours but some couples choose to have bridal preparations covered too so if you want this you would need a bit longer.

What happens if it rains?

If the forecast looks like rain might be on the cards then I’ll bring an umbrella or I might suggest a different time to avoid the rain if schedule allows.

Can you help plan the elopement?

Always happy to give hints and tips
